Excited about your future but want to feel more prepared for inevitable challenges?

Want to learn to navigate conflict constructively, before it becomes a crisis?

What We Might Talk About in Counseling

  • Communication styles & conflict resolution

  • Attachment styles & how your past affects your relationship

  • Values, life goals, and expectations

  • Sex, intimacy, and emotional connection

  • Finances, work-life balance, household responsibilities

  • Family roles, mental load, parenting (if applicable)

  • Rituals of connection and repair

  • How to protect your relationship over time

We’ll help you prepare for your next big step-whether that’s marriage, moving in together, having kids, opening a relationship, or making a long-term commitment.

Our secular/non-religious premarital & pre-commitment counseling supports you in having the real, vulnerable conversations that strengthen love and emotional safety.

The best part: it’s all tailored to your unique relationship needs. No values pushed on you. No pressure to fit the mold.

Our Approach: Evidence-Based, Emotionally Grounded

Our therapists use research-backed methods to help you connect more deeply

Gottman Method

We draw from the Gottman Method, an approach that helps couples understand conflict patterns, build friendship, and increase emotional intimacy. Learn to turn toward each other-even when things get hard.

Attachment Theory

We help you explore your attachment styles and understand how early relational patterns shape current dynamics- so you can create a more secure, trusting bond with your partner.

Sharing the Mental Load

We talk openly about the mental and emotional labor of relationships-like invisible household work, emotional caretaking, and decision fatigue. Learn how to create a more equitable, respectful partnership.

Mindfulness & Somatic Tools

We practice self-soothing and co-regulating. Learn to stay present with each other, regulate your nervous systems during disagreements, and connect on a deeper, more embodied level.

A Safe Container for Your Unique Relationship

Love and commitment are universal, but every relationship is unique. We are dedicated to providing a knowledgeable, affirming, and non-judgmental space for all couples. Our practice proudly welcomes and has experience working with:

  • Couples of all sexual orientations and gender identities (LGBTQ+ affirming)

  • Monogamous, polyamorous, and ethically non-monogamous (ENM) relationships

  • Married, engaged, and non-married couples building a life together

  • Couples from all cultural and spiritual backgrounds

Your relationship structure will be honored, and your goals will be our guide.

An Investment in Your Future

Premarital counseling is one of the most meaningful investments you can make in your relationship.

While it may feel like a big financial commitment now, it’s often far more affordable, and less emotionally costly, than years of couples therapy down the road, after resentment or miscommunication have taken root.

Be proactive. Give yourselves the gift of clarity, connection, and the tools to navigate life together with confidence.

Session Rates:

  • 60-minute couples session: $170

  • 90-minute couples session: $250

Why We Don’t Accept Insurance for Couples Therapy

Insurance companies require a diagnosis for one partner-labeling them as the “identified patient”-in order to cover therapy. But in couples work, we don’t view one person as the problem. Instead, we focus on the relationship as a whole and the patterns that shape how you connect, communicate, and navigate challenges together.

Because of this relational approach, we do not bill insurance for couples or relationship therapy. However, we do offer a sliding scale for couples who need financial support-please reach out to discuss your options.

Ready to get started?

Schedule a free, no-pressure 15-minute video consultation. We'll discuss your goals and you can see if our approach feels like the right fit.

1

Fill out online assessments & have your first session where we'll get to know you as a couple, explore your relationship's history and strengths, and collaboratively set clear goals for our work together.

2

You’ll each have individual sessions with your therapist to talk more about your history and any specific concerns or challenges for you.

3

Over the next several sessions, we will actively work on building skills, having structured conversations, and creating tangible rituals of connection that you can carry into your future.

4

Once we complete our goals (generally after 5-8 sessions), you’ll have the option for continued support from your therapist-whether it’s a monthly check-in or sessions as-needed, you’ll have us to lean on in the next stages of your relationship. Sessions are available both in-person at our welcoming Ferndale office and via secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth for any couple in Michigan.
